Punishment Versus Discipline

angela9862

Punishment and discipline are not the same. They are not akin to one another at all. At times they are used interchangeably. This should not be. Father God does not punish His sons and daughters. Many scriptures speak on who these are: Ephesians 1:5, John 1:12-13, 1 John 5:1-2 are just a few.

Understand, punishment is born of anger, frustration, fear even. There is no fruit FROM punishment; only antagonistic motivation. Discipline on the other hand is born of love and kind intention. It is to set a path for growth and maturity. To allow or enact momentary displeasure to give course for opportunity to learn and expand in understanding. I submit to you a few scriptures to speak to this Truth: Hebrews 12:11, Proverbs 12:1 & 13:24, Job 5:17.

So parents, coaches, teachers, etc; if you find yourself postured at a crossroads, choose discipline. Essentially what I am asking of you, what Jesus asks of us, is to choose love. Let what comes be born of love, and cultivates growth and maturity. Spurn all else. Punishment is experienced in this life, it is. Though it is not experienced by His sons and daughters, originating from Him. To that end, it should not emanate from us either. Instead, He has put His love on us. His banner over us, in Love.
